Hello everyone,

I came across this great web page and I decided to give this a shot. I am a native of Oviedo currently living in New Jersey. In the early 20th century two members from my family tree emigrated from Proaza (Asturias) to Tampa. They were uncles of my grandfather. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on how to to some research to try to locate the history of that part of my family.

Best regards,
Francisco

Do you have any other information about them? Do you know their names or birthdates? There is a special collection of photographs of the early members of the Centro Asturiano de Tampa in the University of South Florida library online. Here is the web address- http://guides.lib.usf.edu/content.php?p ... sid=640826. There is also a good book called "Tampa Cigar Workers" by Robert Ingalls and Louis Perez. Chances are very good that your uncles worked in the cigar factories. I hope this helps.

Hello Francisco!!!
It is easy to look for your relatives, there are a lot of different sites
that you can start looking for your family.
You can start using the www.whitepages.com
and you can search thru www.google.com and you can
start your search, you may try www.ancestry.com be persistent because
in Tampa everybody knows everybody, you just need to search at the
right places. Good luck !

Thanks to both for the answers. Cando, I do have the name of one of them. Thanks for the valuable information. I may be able to get some more information from Spain for the birthdates.

Raquel, thanks also for the good wishes. I will keep digging!
