Needed: Your help with my literal translation

Hello Everyone, I require your help:
My father was born in the village of Vega de Peridiello, located in the el consejo de Grado. I believe that Vega de Peridiello literally translates to his fertile plain of pears or pear trees. My late cousin Fernando, sent me a letter in 1989, stating that he was busy working in the pear orchard. From that comment, I concluded that the Peri in Peridiello was referring to pears. There must be pear orchards in that part of Asturias; although, I thought that they grew a lot of apples, and hence the production of the Asturian national beverage, Sidra.
Hopefully, this is an accurate translation, and please help to confirm.
