I am trying to piece together my family's history and my great-grandparents left Asturias in the early 1900's.

My great-grandfather's name was Silverio Garcia. He was born in 1889 in, I believe,Cudillero. He left Asturias some time prior to 1916 (my grandmother was born in the United States in 1916). He moved first to Cuba and then to Florida. He owned a bakery and meat market in the Ybor City area of Tampa. His parents were Fernando Garcia and Romona Rodriguez.

My great-grandmother's name was Carmen Garcia (maiden name Rodriguez). Her parents' names were Gaspar Rodriguez and Honesta Fernandez.

I know that prior to leaving they lived in San Martin de Luina. My grandmother, whose name was also Carmen, kept in touch with several of her relatives in San Martin up until she passed away in 1997 and since then my mother has lost touch with these individuals.

I would appreciate any information that anyone may have to help me either trace my family history or find distant relatives that may still be in Spain. Thanks.

Scott, my mother was born in a very little place of the parrish of San Martín de Luiña, municipality of Cudillero. In fact my last name is also García, althought I don't think we are related because it is too much frequent. However some of my ancestors also migrated to Cuba. All my relatives left those isolated highlands many years ago and there is a lot of time that I don't visit the zone, but perhaps I could meet or contact yours. 1997 is not a very far time. Do you know some names extracted for example from the letters of your grandmother?

I am going to get that information for you. I do know that my parents were in Spain this past summer and had learned that some of the relatives my grandmother used to talk to had passed away and that their children had moved to Madrid.
