Searching for my grandmother's family. She was born, Florentina Amelia Gonzalez Diaz in 1906, Cardenas, Matanzas, Cuba and died at age 103 in 2009 New Jersey, USA.
Her mother, Amelia Salome Diaz y Jorge DOB 22 of October 1884 and died 11 of February 1915 in Cuba. I am not sure if she was born in Cuba or maybe in Yucatan, Mexico. She came from a family of fisherman who worked in the Gulf of Mexico and Cardenas, Cuba. She married Manuel Antonio Gonzalez y Gonzalez Born 1881 (?) in Gijon Asturias. Amelia Salome Diaz y Jorge had a brother named Cecilio who married Mercedes Gonzalez, they had Agustin who son in turn was a doctor, a daughther named Mercedes who had no children and Cecilia who had no children. Amelia Salome Diaz y Jorge also had 3 sisters: Angela; Soledad; and Amada.
Manuel Antonio Gonzalez y Gonzalez (my great grandfather and father of Florentina Amelia Gonzalez Diaz) came to Cuba to fight during Cuba's last war for independence from Spain and died approx 1931 in Fomento, Las Villas, Cuba. He was 1 of 11 children, born to Florentina Gonzalez y Polo. I believe she was of some wealthy family or mayoralasga? She is the one associated with La Linar. Her spouse was Francisco Gonzalez y Rodiles from La Mata, Gijon, Asturias.
They had 11 children: Maximo, Evaristo, Casimiro, Maria, Casimira, Balbina , Victoria, Hacienta, Manuel (my greatgrandfather), Jose Maria (who died in Cuba) and another child, name not available at this time. These names are not in birth order as far as I know.
The one named Evaristo lived in Atahoyos #18 Gijon Espana, according to a record that my mom found. Also, Maximo married Regla Vidal, they had no children. Regla Vidal was a cousin of Amelia Diaz Jorge who married Manuel Antonio Gonzalez Gonzalez.
This is my first forum attempt, I hope it is not overwhelming to some. Please feel free to ask, inform me or reach out. Sincerely Yours, Rebecca

Hi, Rebecca,
I've tried to organize your message a bit to make it easier to read. I've also given it a specific title to try to attract more attention to it. Please re-read and make sure that my changes are accurate.
When you write, remember that many of our readers do not read English, so you need to be very clear and use simple language. Paragraphs are very helpful.
It's interesting that you've organized your tree in a matriarchal manner. A woman, whose mother was Y, ant that mother married X. Usually we just say who the parents of a person were. It's not bad, just different.

La Linar
Hi Rebecca:
In Asturias there are two places named La Linar:
1. La Linar: it is a "casería" (a country house, I don´t know the exact translation for this word) in the parish of Villapañada (Grado).
2. La Llinar: it is another "casería" belonging to the parish of Santa Cruz (Mieres).
Do you need any data for your records? Let us know.
Marta.
