We believe the little girl who was approx 3 years old was born and died in Clarksburg. (the family resided in Meadowbrook.) We know she died of burns from scalding . Her birthdate approx. 1910 or 11.

My name is Molly Montes Faulk. I am searching for the grave of a child named Angela Montes (not the Angeline Montes born in 1912 in Clarksburg ( my Aunt) but an older sibling with the same name) The family also had a male child named Joe Montes born in 1917. Joe died in 1919 from pneumonia. Joe was born after the family relocated to Moundsville WV and is buried in Mt. Rose cemetery. We believe the little girl who was approx 3 years old was born and died in Clarksburg. The children were born to my paternal grandparents who immigrated from Spain and were Austurian descent. . My grandmother's maiden name was Ava Valdes ; my grandfather Adelino Montes. We have located the cemetery where Joe is buried (do not have a grave) but we would like to locate the little girl and acknowledge these immigrant children as part of the Montes Family. My Aunt Angeline Montes Alonso is 101 years old and lives on Long Island. She is my father's sister; she searched for Joe's grave each time she came to visit us in Moundsville. Her husband Julius Garcia Alonso is a member of the Soccer Hall of Fame, as a promotor. My father Manual Montes died at age 44 in 1955 in Moundsville WV.
Thank you so much for any assistance you can provide.

Molly, I do not remember any of the old timers taking about this, but I would think they did. And I'm sorry to say Montes is not a name I remember. I can tell you this: most if not all Spanish people at that time buried family members at Holy Cross Cemetery in Clarksburg. I also know this: at one time a lot of Spanish families lived in Meadowbrook. It is about a mile from Spelter (Ziesing). West Virginia has a website that you may want to look at. It has a lot of info about death, birth, as well as other things. You may want to take a look at it: http://www.wvculture.org/vrr/

I took a look at the WV website. It has two Montes that died in Marshall county (Moundsville). Joe, who passed April 3 1919, and Manual, September 3 1955. Joe's mother's name was Ava Valdes. You can take a look.

What were the last names of her mother and father? Knowing their complete names could help. Adelino Montes would have had a second last name, as would have Ava Valdes.

Could it be one of these from Harrison County?

Infant Menanday:

I also searched using "infant", "child", and "unknown" in both the last and first name boxes. Here are "unknown" listings of children at least a year old that could be related to your or anyone's family, but they're in the vicinity:
http://www.wvculture.org/vrr/va_dcdetail.aspx?Id=786081
http://www.wvculture.org/vrr/va_dcdetail.aspx?Id=786236 (found in a well)

http://www.wvculture.org/vrr/va_dcdetail.aspx?Id=787046
http://www.wvculture.org/vrr/va_dcdetail.aspx?Id=787056 (East Pike St.)

Also, I know of instances in which births were not recorded at least into the 1920s. I wonder if some deaths were also not recorded? Things were looser then. I can imagine that the Spanish-speaking may have just taken care of a child's burial on their own.

Ron,

My Grandmother Adelina Montes was related to the Llaneza (spelling I am not sure) they lived in Northview.

I know you knew Anita...wonder if that could help at all.

Hi, Barbara,
Thanks for the tip.
Have you heard stories like I have of births (or even deaths) not being recorded?

Hi,

My Mom Angelina Montes Alonso was named for her deceased sister...
Angelina...

The first Angelina...as I was told...My Grandmother was boiling hot water to wash clothes. At the time they had boarders in Clarksburg..Angelina was very fond of one of the boarders. When he came home she got excited and ran to him and tripped and fell into the boiling hot water. She lived for about a week then passed away. That is what my Mom told me over the years.

Barbara, I remember that story now! Do you know the age of the girl when she died or her birthdate? Do you know where they were living in Clarksburg, like a neighborhood? Any idea where she was buried?

I don't know where in Clarksburg they lived. I know Mom has family in Northview, whether they lived there I really don't know.

Her age...my Mom was born in 1912 and she was named for her so she had to be born before 1912. I think she was about 2/3 not sure though,

We have no idea the cemetery she is buried in...that is what Molly and Margaret are trying to find out. They have been on this search for awhile.

Hi--I looked at the birth record of her sister. Aunt Josephine in 1915 and it shows Northview as her birth place. Could this be a help? Margaret

Just found that 1911 city directory Clarksburg WV has Adelino Monte_ listed at Pride Ave North View. That could help I think.
