my great-great grandparents from Oviedo

Hi, I am new to the forum. I feel fortunate to have found your website after much internet research. I was born in Cuba in 1941 and came to the US in 1952. It's time I put some records on paper so that my children know that there was more than Cuba in their
heritage. My parents and some of my grandparents were born in Cuba, primarily in Santa Clara, Matanzas and Bayamo (one of the oldest cities in Cuba). However, most of my ancestors were born in Spain or the Canary Islands

paternal great-grandfather: Jose Garcia Cuervo, Oviedo, married Francisca Palma, Bayamo
paternal great-great grandfather: Vicente Garcia, Oviedo, married Manuela Cuervo, Oviedo
maternal grandfather: Simeon Diaz Delgado, Canary Islands (probably La Palma).

Any help in going further would be appreciated. The Cuban government makes it difficult to do my research so I am relying on what information I can get out of Spain. Any ideas?

I don't have any birth/death dates but Simeon died in Placetas, Cuba around 1960 and most likely Jose Garcia Cuervo died in Bayamo around 1920-1940.

Hi Tony, and welcome to the forum.

Because some of our members are monolingual. it would be good to make your posts both in English and in Spanish. I hope we will able to help you explore your family history and find relatives.

Welcome, Tony!

It will be important to know what "Oviedo" means in your genealogical records. This thread explains it: http://www.asturianus.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2224

Thanks for the clarification. It will make things a bit harder when I get the chance to visit "Oviedo" and find out more about my ancestors. Thanks again.
