Hi everybody,

Although a bit late, I wish you Merry Christmas, a Happy New Year and that all your dreams became true.

I am including here a page from an old newspaper (December1914), in which the picture of a lost asturian tradition: the "aguilanderos" can be seen. The children used to go each house, singing Christmas carols, and waiting for a gift. In the present newspaper the children were given chestnuts.

I hope you enjoy the image.

Regards,
Marta

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you, too, Marta!

Chestnuts is an interesting gift. I can see how that would be something a country dweller might have handy. What other kinds of gifts would be common?

I'm surprised that the boys are so young. Was it just done by young boys? Did girls have a similar tradition?

Were there any consequences if a homeowner didn't provide a gift?
