Hi, my name is Patricia Diaz Krause and I just recently joined the Asturian-American site. I am very happy to have found it and I hope to learn more about my heritage on my father's side. My Dad was born and raised in Asturias. Specifically, he was from Tamon. He immigrated to the U.S. in 1920 when he was 20 yrs. old. He entered via Ellis Island and then lived for awhile in West Virginia with some other Spaniards. He decided that mining was not for him so he moved to Dearborn, MI and got a job with the Ford Motor Company.

If anyone has any relatives in the Tamon, Carreno, Candas, Gijon, Aviles area, please write...we may be distant relatives. My Dad's name is Ramon Diaz Bango (Diaz from his Dad and Bango from his Mom).

Looking forward to hearing from others. By the way, my 22-year-old son will be going to Spain on May 7 and will visit our relatives. He has never met them, but he is very anxious to meet them and they feel the same way as well.

After reading your post, I believe that it is possible we are distant relatives. My name is Marta Díaz García. My grandfather went to USA (Virginia) where he died. I know that his cousin, Victor Díaz, also went to Virginia.
Some of my father's relatives lived in Tamón but most of them in Cancienes (not far from Tamón).
What about your mom? Bango is a well known name in Cancienes also. In fact there is a place named Bango, where I also have relatives.
Please, let me know more details and I'll try to find data about your ancestors.
