Asturian-American Migration Forum

Dear members, I would like to introduce myself to this forum. I am Jose Luis Celorio, born in Mexico in 1968 of Asturian parents. My mother decided to return to Asturias in 1975, after my father's death.

I speak Asturianu, eastern dialect mixed with xiriga. Xiriga is an artificial language used by teyeros since the 1850s approximately. It is currently spoken in some valleys of LLanes, a small county in eastern Asturias, by 200/300 people. My log in name 'Zancañeru' means 'friend' in xiriga.

I have lived in London since 1998. I visit Asturias quiet often, and get sick eating fabada and xipirones on arrival to my grand-aunt's home.

My surname 'Celorio' is a small village by the sea, but I was brought up first in Tijuana, then in the mountains of eastern Asturias since I was 6 years old.

I am deeply impressed to find so many Asturian people interested in their roots and ancestors. I look forward to reading your messages.

Estimados miembros, prestariame presentayme nesti forum. Ero Jose Luis Celorio, naciu'n Mexicu 1968 de padres asturianos. Mio madre dicidio golver a España'n 1975 dempues la muerte de mió padre.

Jablo Asturianu, dialectu oriental mexclau cola xiriga. La xiriga é una jabla artificial usada pelos teyeros desdi'l 1850. Agora jablase nalgunos valles de Llanes, un piquiñu conceyu nel'oriente d'Asturias per unas 200/300 personas. El mió nome 'Zancañeru' sinifica 'amigu' na xiriga.

Vivo'n Londres desde'l 1998. Visito Asturias a menudu y pongome malu jartandome de fabada y xipirones nomas llego a casa de mió tiabuela.

El mió apelliu 'Celorio' é un pueblu piquiñu allau dela mar, pero criéme nas montañas del'oriente d'Asturias desde que tinia 6 años.

Prestame alcontrar tantos asturianos interesaos nos sos orixenes y antepasaos. Prestariame tantu lleer los vuestros mensaxes.

Hola Zancañeru y bienvenido al foro! (Qué bueno que viniste - cómo se diría en México )
Es estupendo tener un miembro que hable xiriga, ya nos irás contando más cosas, porque es muy interesante. Yo conozco gente que se apellida Celorio, unos de Ribadesella y otros de Ardisana, supongo que seréis todos parientes lejanos.
Por cierto, hace poco inserté un enlace de una foto aérea impresionante de Llanes y los Picos de Europa - está en la sección Nuestro Album de fotos de este foro. Seguro que te interesará verla.

It's great to have a member who speaks xiriga, you'll have to tell us more about it, because it's very interesting. I know people with the surname of Celorio, some from Ribadesella and some from Ardisana, I guess you are all distant relatives.

Seguro que no debería presentarme aquí pero como coincido en algunas cosas con zancañeru.... Soy asturiano pero vivo en Mexico D.F. desde hace unos cuantos años y tambien conozco la Xíriga bastante bien porque en mi pueblo hubo muchos tejeros.
