Hello, haven't visited in a long time but I am here now to let everyone know of access to a passenger list of people who left Asturias for Cuba between the years 1840-1871. It is on the Cuban Genealogy Center web site at the following address: http://www.cubagen.org/barcos/index.htm

The lists are for ships which left the port of Gijón. I was unable to find any of my ancestors, but I hope anyone with roots in Cuba and Asturias may find their ancestors here.

Good luck,

Buena Suerte,

Thanks, Robert. This is interesting stuff! By the way, the brigantine "Habana" that made the route Ribadesella-Havanna for many years, taking emigrants and bringing sugar, coffee and tobacco, is on the Coat of Arms of the city of Ribadesella.

Gracias Robert.

Robert,
Thanks for the info re the passenger lists. My understanding is that the
emmigration to Cuba from the northern provinces of Spain peaked from about 1890-1930...any chance of obtaining access to those lists in the future???

Tony,

I'm sure the folks at CubaGenWeb will do what they can to have access to lists for later years, but I'm sure it's a laborious task as indicated in their web site. I would absolutely love it if they could post new data since I am mainly interested in the late 1800s.

By the way, I noticed the links in my original post are broken. The updated links are:
