I come from a long line of Longorias from south Texas. I understand that my 7 time grandfather or his father, an Asturian, came to what was then the Spanish colony of Mexico in the mid 17th century. He settled in Nuevo Santander in an area that is now the border region between south Texas and northern Mexico. Does anyone know of Longoria lineage, names, particular to Asturias?

Hi there,
Longoria is an Asturian surname from the county of Tineo. I don't know much more about it, only that there's a street in Oviedo named after one: Calle Longoria Carbajal.
There are quite a few Longorias still listed in Asturias.
Check the phone guide: www.paginasblancas.es
All you have to do is choose the province (Asturias, obviously) from the drop-down menu and fill in "1. apellido", and after you've seen those who bear Longoria as a first surname you can start a new search for "2. apellido" (Those that are Longoria on their mother's side).
By the way, the public library of New Santander had an on-line list of the first Spanish settlers who arrived with José Escandón, most Asturians and Santanderinos. You'll probably find your ancestor there.
Cheers
