What promises to be a very interesting conference on the gaita asturiana and gaita music will take place in Gijón on May 20, 21, and 22. For more information see http://gaitadefoles.net/noticias/xornaesdestudio.htm (in Portuguese, but not hard to read for members who can read Castellano).

It's worth clicking on the link just for the photo of the gaitero.

Good find, Bob!

Carlos has also mentioned the Xornaes d'Estudiu sobre la Gaita, at the Museo de Gaita. He says they are offering presentations, debates, and papers, and that he's giving a talk entitled, "Gaita gallega, gaita asturiana y zonas de transición" (Galician bagpipes, Asturian bagpipes, and transitional zonas).

------------

Yes, Carlos is certainly listed in the program. I wish I could be there. The conference sounds fascinating.
